Tennis teams ace weekend matches

Staff ReporterUTC's men's tennis team won their sixth straight game in a row with a victory at Austin Peay State University Sunday.

The team won all their doubles matches and all but one of their singles matches. The victors of the single matches for UTC included Badr Bouabdellah at No.1, Mark Fynn at No. 2, Peter Sauska at No.3, Tim Mittiga at No. 4 and Pavel Vostrikov at No. 5.

Justin Andrews, UTC freshman, was defeated after a hard-fought game at No. 6. The match was Andrew's first dual match for UTC.

The men's squad also won their match at Murray State Saturday with a score of 4-3.

The Lady Mocs achieved a victory at Austin Peay with a score of 6-1 on Sunday as well.

Winners for the singles included Anastasia Zhukova at No.1, Lindsey Ballard at No.2, Beata Knizat at No.3, Bonnie Adams at No. 4 and Samantha Duggan at No. 6.

Anastasia Zhokova, ranked nationally as No. 23, remained undefeated in her six singles matches.

The win at Austin Peay for the women's team was a boost of confidence following their Friday loss at Alabama.

The Lady Mocs hit the road this weekend, playing Birmingham-Southern Saturday and UAB Sunday.

The men's team faces UNC Greensboro at 1 p.m. at the Hixson Racquet Club Saturday and travels to Birmingham Southern Sunday.
