America is a nation that prides itself on freedom of speech, religion and expression. But the extremist left in America is once again attempting to censor religion by exterminating God in yet another aspect of historical American culture.
This time, the words "Laus Deo," which is Latin for "Praise be to God," have been stricken from the Washington Monument replica that tourists can view, since the original inscriptions are 555 feet high and unreadable from the ground, according to Bob Unruh of WorldNetDaily.com.
Of course, it doesn't end there. A few weeks ago, Major Garret of Fox News reported that an Ohio man, Andrew Larochelle of Dayton, Ohio, paid $9 to have a flag flown over the Capitol in remembrance of a departed family member.
The flag was to carry the message "God, Country, Family." When the family received the flag, the word "God" had been stricken from the message.
This decision, after the family complained, was repealed, but the fact that the initial reaction was to censor God dictates the biased position our country is taking in order to ensure a God-censored nation.
This blatant, obnoxious censorship contradicts the very premise upon which this nation was constructed: freedom, including freedom of religious expression. And yes, this nation was built upon principles of Christianity.
According to EadsHome.com, John Adams said, "The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity."
The site also quotes Benjamin Franklin as saying: "God governs in the affairs of man. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel.(Constitutional Convention, 1787.)"
Yet in this day and age, this form of censorship is far from unique.
For the past few years, the Christian terms of traditional American culture have been tweaked and spindled into different various "politically correct" forms. Christmas break has transformed into "winter holiday," Christmas trees are being coined "holiday trees," and some political activists are attempting to ban the nativity scene from schools, parades, and public display. A popular local Web site, "The Chattanoogan," reported that right here in Chattanooga, activists complained about the nativity scene being presented in the annual Christmas parade.
What more do these people want? In some states, the Ten Commandments have already been stricken in courthouses, according to "The Washington Post." I also personally discovered an infestation of online petitions that have arisen on several Web sites, including ipetitions.com and petitiononline.com, which are attempting to strike "In God We Trust" from our money and "under God" from our pledge.
It disgusts me that people who feel offended by America's history feel they must censor it for everyone who is not. In fact, this counterproductive measure of securing "religious freedom" is, in fact, censoring the American foundation of life and liberty instigated by our forefathers.
Many of the political offended trying to remove God from our society tout political, misconceptual garbage such as "separation of church and state." In the entire constitution, the phrase "separation of church and state" is absent. It is not there. The statement, written by Thomas Jefferson to a church in Pennsylvania, according to wikipedia.org, has been manipulated and abused and slandered by politicians to censor religion, when Jefferson was simply reassuring the church that politicians would not be able to interfere with religion, nor would religion be able to dictate politics. Now, it seems, politics can interfere with religion.
My message to these people is that without God and the founding fathers' beliefs, we wouldn't have a country where they could protest at all.
Striking God from American culture is equivalent to spitting on our great nation. Neglecting our heritage, our foundation, and our history by censoring, rewriting, and condemning God is a hypocritical forfeiture of American intelligence.
The constitution states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." Thus, displaying God, in any religious form, is within American rights. But burying God in the rubble of angry grumblings is prohibiting free exercise of religious speech.
This lunatic and desperate attempt by extremists to terminate God from a country founded on God shows the endless spiral of degradation in American society and a hypocritical mind frame of censorship; the proclaimers of free speech and expression seldom realize they are the ones censoring.
To these people I say open your eyes, see the truth and quit projecting your views onto America by censoring. This is America, land of the free, established upon, for, and by, God. God bless.
Liberals chastised for censorship
