The campus crime log is a weekly feature of The University Echo and is compiled from UTC Police reports to keep students aware of incidents on campus. Reports are listed in chronological order.

August 27, 2009

09-1059 Officers responded to a miscellaneous call at 700 Vine St. Police met a male student who showed them a Raleigh bicycle parked in front of the library.

The student thought the bicycle was the same one that was stolen from him during the previous semester.

After checking the serial number of his stolen bicycle, the police found that it was the one reported stolen.

The security device that was on the bicycle was cut, and the bicycle was returned to the student.



09-1061 An officer was flagged down at 815 University St. for a property damage that occurred at the address.

Police spoke with a male student who told police that he hit a bike rider while he was opening the driver side door of his car.

He sustained a long, shallow scratch across his entire left bicep. He refused medical treatment and said he would clean the injury when he returned to his residence.

Minimal damage occurred to the car door. Estimated damage is $400.00.

No charges were filed.



August 28, 2009

09-1071 During a patrol shift, officers noticed a party urinating outside of his vehicle in Lot 30 located at 711 East 5th St.

Before officers were able to turn into the parking lot, the party reentered the vehicle and began to exit the lot.

The officers initiated emergency equipment and the vehicle stopped prior to leaving the lot.

The driver and three passengers were identified as juveniles.

Upon speaking to the driver, one of the officers noticed an odor of alcohol and marijuana.

The parties were asked to step out of the vehicle and all parties, other than the driver, admitted to smoking marijuana. One of the juveniles said he had been drinking.

An officer searched the vehicle and found an open can of beer, an open bottle of vodka and a clear plastic bag containing a green plant material residue believed to be marijuana.

The parties admitted there had been marijuana in the bag. The juveniles attend a local private school, and their parents were called.

All parents gave permission to release the students to the school's administration. Parties were released to the administrator without incident.



August 29, 2009

Officers encountered a female student who appeared to be intoxicated.

Police questioned the defendant who said she had consumed alcohol and was underage.

The defendant showed signs of intoxication by being unable to stand on her own, slurring her speech and vomiting.

Upon investigation, police discovered the defendant had been consuming alcohol at a party that took place at a local fraternity house.

She was transported to Erlanger Medical Center and was cited in lieu of arrest.
