Senators approve event funding

In this week's meeting, the Student Government Association approved funding for several upcoming events. The senate passed funding of $1,250 for "Help Heal Haiti" T-shirts. The T-shirts will be available to students in exchange for a donation for Haiti. This bill passed in a placard vote of 26 to 0.

The senate also approved funding of $550 for the upcoming "Help Heal Haiti" cookout, which will be held on Friday. This bill also passed in a placard vote of 26 to 0.

The senate also voted to fund the Valentine's Day sex awareness event. $889.50 was passed for "condom heart" T-shirts and $430 was passed for refreshments for the event. The funding for the T-shirts was passed in a placard vote of 25 to 1 and the funding for the refreshments was passed in a placard vote of 26 to 0.

SGA also voted to fund "The Blackout" event Feb. 16, a Black History month event set up like a game show. In a placard vote of 26 to 0, the senate voted to give the event $178.00 for refreshments.

Funding of $1,200 was passed for a mural to be painted in the University Center's game room. This bill passed in a placard vote of 26 to 0.

Dominique Copeland, a junior from Memphis, was named senator of the month for the month of January.

The Campus Recreation staff also gave a presentation about the new options on the ARC Web site. SGA passed a bill to fund these improvements last year. The website includes custom workout tools and tutorials, that can be downloaded.
