The team opened their break with a victory over Appalachian State, the first SoCon win of the season for the Lady Mocs. Coach Jeff Clark changed up the doubles for this match, helping them take the doubles point early.
In singles play, Lindsey Ballard, a Lilburn, Ga., senior, and Chattanooga freshmen Grace Robinette and Arianna Sanjines were double winners for the day.
The clincher of the match fell to senior Bonnie Adams, Newport Beach, Calif., as she defeated Amanda Cash 6-2, 6-3 winning the match for the Mocs. This match improved the record 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
As spring break continued the women worked hard in practice for a big weekend of matches. Their first match was a 7-0 loss to Charleston Southern on Saturday.
However, the women fought hard with Adams and freshman Annie Green, Atlanta, taking their doubles match 8-1 at the No. 3 position.
In the singles, two of the matches were taken into third sets. Ballard battled her way to a third set before falling to Aodhnait Lombard 6-3, 6-7, 10-8. No. 5 Green took her match into a third set before falling to Nazil Kutuk 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
After a tough loss the Lady Mocs had to quickly regain their strength for the fourth SoCon match of the season against College of Charleston on Sunday.
The women brought the same intensity but were just slightly outlasted by the College of Charleston, losing the match 6-1.
The only win for the Mocs was claimed by Ballard who took her match quite easily with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Chelsea Albertz. This was also the fourth SoCon match for Charleston, who remain perfect with wins in the conference.
The Lady Mocs, now 5-7 overall and 1-3 in the SoCon, will now have a chance to recover as they take on Furman for a SoCon match Thursday at home. The match will take place at the Champions Club at 2 p.m. The women will also travel to Kennesaw State on Saturday to play at 1 p.m.
The men's team is coming off of a match against Georgia Tech which they lost 7-0. The team will be back in action this week playing two matches in the state of North Carolina.
Friday the Mocs will take on UNC Greensboro at 2 p.m. and Saturday against Davidson. Both of these matches will be conference matches. With the Mocs sitting with a 10-3 overall record and 1-2 record in the conference the team will be looking for two good wins.
