Softball team loses out at tourney

The Lady Mocs had a great start in Baton Rouge Friday with an 11 to 5 win over St. John.
Tara Tembey went 2-3 and added three RBIs to help the Lady Mocs come to a six-point win. Laci Upchurch also added three RBIs, while Katie Blevins added two. Brooke Loudermilk pitched three innings with two strikeouts and only giving away two hits. Kandice Irwin finished the game by pitching the last three innings, having two strikeouts and never giving up a run.
The Lady Mocs finished Friday with another win over Nicholls State 15-6. Tembey had another great game going 2-2, along with Brittany Eason and Kristin Holloway. Toni Hutchinson went 3-4. Michelle Fuzzard added four RBIs to help the team gain victory as well. Kaitlin Holloway pitched three innings, only giving up four hits and had three strikeouts.
Lady Mocs closed Friday 2-0 and looked strong in heading to the next day to make it into final bracket play.
The Mocs kept their winning streak strong taking another win Saturday morning over Ball State, defeating them 9-0. Tembey went 2-2 once again leading the Lady Mocs in hits.
Hutchinson and Upchurch added three RBIs each to help the Mocs gain the victory. Loudermilk pitched the entire five innings only giving up three hits and struck out four batters.
Saturday afternoon things turned on the Mocs against LSU where they fell short 9-1. Katie Blevins went 1-2 giving the Lady Mocs their only hit of the game. Rachel Mitchell led LSU with three runs helping her team defeat the Mocs. Irwin and Holloway pitched for the Mocs, but even with four strikeouts from Irwin they were not enough to stop the strong batters of LSU.
This loss placed the Lady Mocs in seat two of the tournament. They would advance to final tournament play Sunday where they would once again face Nicholls State.
Even though the Lady Mocs had already defeated Nicholls State Friday, they could not hold on to defeat them for a second time.Nicholls State took a 15-3 victory over the Mocs to advance to the championship game of the tournament.
The Lady Mocs traveled home with a record of 3-2. They next look to take on Ball State then Bradley at Frost Stadium Friday, Feb. 22, starting at 9:45 a.m.
