SGA members listened to presentations from guest speakers about the Nightfall concert series and changes to the admissions process and grading system in their Tuesday meeting.

Executive Director of the Chattanooga Downtown Partnership (CDP), Carla Pritchard, asked SGA to suggest artists for a college-oriented night at the 20-year anniversary of the Nightfall concert series. Nightfall will host concerts for 17 weeks during the summer.

"[We don't want any] mainstream names, but someone who students in general would enjoy hearing," Pritchard said. "[We want] artists that have never really been in the Chattanooga market before, or at least a long time."

Pritchard said she is scheduling the performers to tie the university in with downtown Aug. 15, as a "welcome-back-to-school show."

Pritchard said 2,500 to 3,000 people attend the concerts.

Linda Orth, university registrar, gave a presentation on new academic policy changes.

Orth said conditional admission will be eliminated and any candidate who does not meet the admission standards will not be allowed to attend UTC.

Beginning fall 2008, all students must have 2.0 GPA in all attempted hours to be considered "in good standing."

Orth also reminded students that the course catalog and general education requirements in the 1998 catalog are expiring.

According to Orth, there has been a lot of confusion about how transfer work counts toward a UTC degree.

Orth said when the new program "Banner" takes effect, transfer work will not count toward GPA but will appear on the RAP sheet and academic record. Transfer hours will count toward a degree but not toward attempted hours.

"Banner" is the new software that will replace the "Legacy" system currently being used by UTC for transfer work, she said.

The first of three information sessions about this topic will be Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Lookout Mountain Room of the UC.

Cumulative GPA will be defined differently with Banner. Orth said W's don't count toward GPA but do count toward the hours for Hope Scholarships.
