The wordsmith: Adam Binkley, editor of the "Sequoya Review," adds some refinement and polish to a manuscript.

The "Sequoya Review" presents students, faculty members and staff of UTC with an annual opportunity to share their works and be exposed to the ideas of others.

The "Sequoya Review" allows everyone to expose their individuality and contribute their passions to the publication. This year the "Sequoya Review" changed much of its staff due to graduation, and Adam Binkley, a Springfield, Tenn., senior, replaced Shana Wolstein as editor.

Binkley said, "Anyone associated with UTC, students and graduate students, are heavily encouraged to submit."

Faculty advisor Sybil Baker said, "There's a lot of poetry and prose and student art. The quality of writing is very high and the magazine itself is beautifully laid out and produced."

The "Sequoya Review" will only publish original works of poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, photography and published arts. The limit is 3,000 words for written works.

Staff member Joseph McCormick, a Hixson, Tenn., senior, said, "A literary magazine gives students an outlet for sharing their creative endeavors with the rest of the campus, and it gives the UTC community an opportunity to see what UTC's writers and artists are capable of."

Submissions should be submitted to Binkley, the English department or any other staff member of the "Sequoya Review." Binkley said a team of editors will judge submissions, and although the "Sequoya Review" tries to feature as many works as possible, there are limitations due to printing finances. Despite financial concerns, Binkley said UTC students, faculty and staff are still pushed to submit their works and share their distinctive talents.

According to Binkley, the "Sequoya Review" is only published once a year and the release date for this year's edition has not yet been determined. The "Sequoya Review" staff will be hosting an event to present the publication and promote further knowledge about the review on April 17, at Rock Point Books. At this event those in attendance can receive a copy.

Those who cannot attend the event can still receive a copy of the "Sequoya Review" as they are passed out around campus, or by contacting members of the "Sequoya Review" staff. They are also available from the English department.
