Second City, a highly acclaimed comedy troupe that has produced talents for programs such as Saturday Night Live, will perform in the Fine Arts Center March 3.
According to Robert Boyer, director of Patten Series, Second City is the most popular of the shows for subscription sales. "It is going to be funny," Boyer said.
Second City performs a mesh of comedic style and improvisation. Boyer said the show will be topical and have a local flair.
"Second City is one of the top improv comedies out there," Boyer said. "The SNL thing speaks for the level of talent in this troupe.
Boyer said Second City is a good opportunity to see performers improvise on the fly.
"You're going to get a good laugh and a night of entertainment," Boyer said. "You're going to see people who might end up on Saturday Night Live in the next six or seven years.
"This is an opportunity to see one of the top improvisation companies in the world," Boyer added. "This is not something you get to see very often in Chattanooga."
Michelle Estes, a junior from Mount Pleasant, Tenn., said she encourages students and faculty to attend live performances such as Second City.
"Performances like this are something different to do," Estes said. "If you go see a live show, you feel more connected to it."
Estes said she recognizes the importance of performing live. "You can play off the audience and get more out of the experience," she said.
Rachel Bryant, a junior from Mount Pleasant, Tenn., said, "Seeing a performance live is more sensational."
Bryant said she is considering attending Second City. "It sounds interesting," Bryant said. "The SNL thing is a major selling point."
Tickets to Second City are $8 and can be purchased at the Fine Arts Center box office.
