The UTC wrestling team continued their winning ways against the SoCon as they rolled through Appalachian State this past weekend.
The Mocs won eight of ten matches in the match against the Mountaineers.
Senior Steve Hromada, Wheatley Heights, N.Y., came back from injury to win a decision at the 133 pounds as UTC only lost two decisions.
The Mocs were coming off a win against the Citadel in their first SoCon matchup.
It was the last stop on a tough road trip for the 19th-ranked Mocs. Chattanooga tallied five straight losses, four of them on the road.
All but one of the losses came against an opponent ranked in the nation's top 25, including number-one ranked Penn State.
The Mocs were also dealing with injuries, and were forced to forfeit more than once at 133-pounds.
The 133-pound forfeit and a pin of a freshman fill-in were the only losses for UTC against the Citadel Bulldogs.
"It was good," said Coach Chris Bono. "The guys needed to get a win under their belts and get their confidence back up."
Seth Garvin, Nick Davis, Josh Edmondson and Matt Koz also earned major decisions to help UTC win 33-12 and improve to 1-0 in the Southern Conference.
Sophomore Cody Cleveland, Tullahoma, Tenn., earned a tech fall, carrying over his surprising streak to the Southern Conference matches.
"Cody Cleveland has been having a heck of a season," said Bono. "Coming out of nowhere, he's done a great job for us,"
The conference schedule continues at Davidson, N.C., Sunday, Feb. 3 starting at 1 p.m.
