Concerts and events both at UTC and in the Chattanooga area should provide plenty of opportunities to get into the holiday mode and support local performers.

Tonight in the Roland Hayes concert hall of the Fine Arts Center, UTC's Chattanooga Singers, Women's Chorale and Men's Chorus will perform their final concert of the semester.
The event is free and begins at 7:30 p.m.

"The selections [for Women's Chorale] are primarily of a seasonal or Christmas nature," according to Lee Harris, head of the music department and director of Women's Chorale.
"Audiences should attend to see and hear what our UTC students are accomplishing as they contribute to the musical life of our campus and community," Harris said.

"They may want to consider joining one of the ensembles next semester and being part of music making at UTC," he said.

Friday, UTC's Master Chorale and Chamber Singers will perform at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, a short distance from campus.
Their concert is also free and open to the public.

For those staying in town over Christmas break, the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera's traditional "Home for the Holidays" program will be Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. in the Tivoli Theatre in downtown Chattanooga.

Stephanie Blaylock, marketing and communications manager for the CSO, said, "There will be lots of holiday music, along with the world premiere of George S. Clinton's 'The Santa Clause Suite.'"

Clinton is a Chattanooga composer and graduate of Brainerd High School. He has written music for parts of numerous films, including "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery," "The Santa Clause 2: The Mrs. Clause," "The Santa Clause 3" and "Deck the Halls."

"It is an honor to have my music performed at the Tivoli by the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera," Clinton said in a press release for the concert.

"Being a native Chattanoogan, the Tivoli will always hold a special place in my heart," he said.
