UTC students can rub elbows with the pros at the Clarence E. Harris Entrepreneurial Forum on Nov. 9.
Put on by the Harris Chair, the Entrepreneurial Forum is used to promote open dialogue and interaction between faculty, students and entrepreneurs.
This year five entrepreneurs will be participating, including Jim Ebel and Jim Morgenstern from CenterBrain Partners, Stephen Culp from Smart Furniture Inc. and Harshad Shah from Hamilton Plastics.
The guest speaker is Michael Butler from SunTrust Bank.
Zach Latham, a Knoxville senior, attended the forum last year, and is looking forward to this year's events.
"It was informative and motivational because it gave us an insight into how to apply the topics we learn in school to real-world situations," he said.
Starting at 8:30 a.m., participating students receive a complimentary breakfast in the UC's Tennessee Room.
Following breakfast, students will have the opportunity to participate in concurrent panel discussions.
Topics being discussed include Positioning Your Entrepreneurial Business for Competitive Advantage and The Roll of Innovation in Entrepreneurship.
While having successful entrepreneurs participate in the panel discussions, students receive a unique perspective into their potential careers.
"Their experiences gave legitimacy to our classes because we could see that they actually use the information that we're learning," Latham said.
If a student wishes to attend the event, they must RSVP with Richard C. Becherer by e-mailing him at Richard-Becherer@utc.edu.
All attending students must RSVP.
With more than 250 students in attendance last year, Becherer, the Clarence E. Harris Chair of Excellence in Business and Entrepreneurship, is anticipating a large crowd.
Becherer describes this forum as both "informative and inspirational," and encourages all interested students to RSVP soon.
