This week's meeting started with Guest Speaker Chuck Cantrell who gave a speech about the campus "achieve" program.

Essentially, his goal is to make the phrase "we will achieve" somewhat of a school-wide slogan representing our commitment to excellence.

Cantrell hopes to be able to use it as a recruitment tool. The slogan will be featured in 30-second commercials during UTC football games and on TV.

President Lydia Grafton wishes to inform everyone that the busses for the Katrina service project are full, as are the busses for the Six Flags trip later this month.

She also announced some difficulty with the proposed homeless forum on Nov. 6.

There is some confusion on who will be speaking, but the forum is still planned for Nov. 6, regardless of which speaker comes.

The final event that she mentioned was a candidate forum that will take place sometime in the near future.

SGA will gather various politicians running for various positions who will each speak and take questions about their platform.

Exact dates are pending.

Habitat for Humanity is going to build a UTC-sponsored home later this year, and they need to raise $50,000 to fund it.

Habitat will be selling T-shirts in order to raise funds and they will need a large number of student volunteers to help build the house after the funds are accumulated. Dates for this event are also pending.

Vice President Bill Stanley reminded everyone who wishes to become an orientation leader now has until Friday to get in their applications if they missed the earlier deadlines.

Dean Anderson announced that this month is Disability Awareness Month and the department of student disabilities announced a series of activities that have been taking place all week.

The remaining events include a comedy show on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m., and an Adopt-a-Disability program and related discussion on Friday.

The Adopt-a-Disability program allows a student to follow a disabled student around all day and to see what the disabled student deals with day in and day out.
