Whether you suffer from coulrophobia (fear of clowns) or are just looking for a good scare, you should visit Clown Town 6: A Night of Twisted Fairy Tales, in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.
I have been to this haunted house for the past two years, and while I would say it takes a lot to scare me, I must admit that this place has made me jump.
At first glance, you may think you are entering a kiddie carnival, because the entrance is made of cheap looking spray-painted plywood.
However, the décor is the least of your worries when you go inside, because you can't see anything, and wander through most of the haunted house in the dark.
No one in particular guides you through the maze - Well, I guess you are enticed to run forward when people jump out at you. But a great deal of time is spent becoming fast friends with the person in front of you who you are clinging to and arguing with your fellow patrons about who is going to walk through first.
While I think there is supposed to be a story line, I didn't particularly understand it - something about a lost key.
However, the "clowns" have really graphic makeup and creepy costumes, so when they were trying to tell the story, I was a little distracted by the rate of my pulse.
I don't want to give away the scariest parts, but in one section, you sit in a pitch-black room, and you can hear all sorts of people and things moving around. Then a strobe light comes on … and, well, it's very in-your-face.
And of course, haunted house staples like chainsaws and murderers and small creepy children are involved.
I did think that Clown Town was a little bit overpriced at $13.
Also, we had to wait for over an hour for our turn to enter, although I did go on Friday the 13th, so there may have been more people there that night.
But it's definitely worth your time … Just don't let those clowns get you.
