Just two short weeks ago, the Chattanooga football team had legitimate playoff aspirations after defeating league powerhouse Georgia Southern. What a difference two weeks can make.

The Mocs suffered an emotional letdown against The Citadel last week and were totally embarrassed this week against Appalachian State University to the tune of 56-21.

The game was actually worse than the lopsided score indicated, as the Mocs trailed by 49 points before scoring a few times during garbage time to cut the deficit to a meager 35 points.

"The buck stops with me," a dejected Rodney Allison stated after the game. "We didn't play well. I am as disappointed as I've been in three years."

Same story in this one as it has been all year for the Mocs: Slow start coupled by a porous Chattanooga secondary that gave up big play after big play by a true freshman quarterback doomed the Mocs from the start.

Mountaineer quarterback Amanti Edwards looked more like Peyton Manning, as he completed 12-of-14 passes for 311 yards and three touchdown passes in a little over two quarters of action.

Allison indicated that major changes will be made to try and right this sinking ship.

"We've got issues in the secondary," he said. "It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. I will have to address serious issues with that."

Another issue Allison will have to address is the quarterback position. Allison was forced to go to backup Matt Lopez yet again after starter Antonio Miller was ineffective for the third straight week.

Miller's inability to lead the offense to any points generated chants of ,"We want Lopez!" from the UTC student section midway through the second quarter.

Lopez started the second half and led Chattanooga to two second-half scoring drives.

The senior from Clinton, Tenn., put the Mocs on the board with 4:34 remaining in the third quarter when he found senior wide receiver Emmanuel Hassell from 14 yards out to cap an eight-play, 80 yard drive.
