The Lady Mocs volleyball team went 1-2 in week six, beating The Citadel (30-15, 30-19, 30-16) but losing to East Tennessee State University (30-21, 30-26, 19-30, 32-34, 5-15) and the College of Charleston (26-30, 31-33, 30-24, 24-30).

On Oct. 3, UTC traveled to Johnson City to take on the Lady Bucs of ETSU.

Junior Leslee Ball, of Sycamore, Ill., earned a team-high 19 kills to help Chattanooga claim the first two games.

The Lady Mocs had fewer attack errors in games one and two, but ETSU's Sarah Buhr and Jennifer Sarto led the Bucs with 22 and 21 kills, respectively.

After an overtime win in game four, ETSU took control behind Callie Kiselich's service game.

Kiselich tallied an ace in addition to her 18 kills of the night.

Jamie Engel, a junior transfer from Troy, Ill., racked up another season double-double with 15 kills and 15 digs while teammate Kelsey Amundson, a Houston junior, added eight kills and 18 assists.

Setter Bethany Herndon moved up to No. 3 in career assists with 2,629 after recording 48 against the Lady Bucs.

UTC returned home to play The Citadel on Oct. 6.

All of the Mocs saw playing time during the match as Chattanooga extended its conference winning streak to five.

Ball and Amundson each put up 13 kills, helping the team earn a .325 hitting percentage.

Ball also earned five blocks, giving her a total of 167-enough to tie for sixth place on the career block list.

Herndon's 36 assists against the Bulldogs moved her up to No. 3 on the assist list.

Chattanooga sophomore Laura Nethery played a strong game three, earning two kills on two attacks and recording three block assists, including one match-winning block.

Injuries plagued the Mocs in the Oct. 7 match against the College of Charleston Cougars.

Herndon went down in the seventh play of the match with a knee injury and Katie Huntsman, a Lebanon, Tenn., senior, left the match with an injured arm.

Michaela Huff, a Dallas sophomore, stepped up to the setter position and had 48 assists on the team's 62 kills.

Chattanooga had five opportunities to win game two before an Emily Swain kill won it for the Cougars in overtime.

UTC took an early lead in game three behind the serving of Lara Newberry, a Chattanooga sophomore, and kills by Engel and Ball.

Newberry added 32 digs to move her up to No. 8 on the career digs list with 1,174.

The Lady Mocs will spend the weekend in South Carolina playing Furman on Oct. 14 and Wofford on Oct. 15.

Their next home match is on Oct. 17 against Western Carolina at Maclellan Gym. Game time is 7 p.m.
