The women's club soccer team at UTC may not be as competitive as a collegiate team, but they still play to win, according to Laura Arnold, senior and team president.

Arnold, a psychology major, said that the club is made up of about 40 women who have an array of skill levels and experience in soccer.

And though the team intends to put forth their best to win, they haven't limited players.

"We have never cut anybody," Arnold said.

Arnold, a soccer player since age 5, explained that the team has some routine games and that they are open to more throughout the school year.

"We play all year, whenever we get a chance," Arnold said.

Alicia Dumont, the club's coach and secretary, said that the team's most recent games were against Georgia Tech and Middle Tennessee State University in late September.

Dumont, a senior who has been playing soccer for 17 years, said that the team's next game is against Vanderbilt in late October, followed by a competition with UT-Knoxville in November.

There is also an indoor game in Maryville, Tenn., in the spring.

The 40-odd players, half of them freshmen, compete for playing time.

Dumont, who plays center-mid on the field, enjoys the team for its athleticism and social opportunities.

"I like it because I have been able to form many friendships and have a lot of fun while doing it," Dumont stated.

The team's practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. (recently at Chamberlain Field).

Interested students can see Laura Arnold at the intramural offices at Maclellan Gymnasium throughout the week to sign for the spring's roster.
