This week's meeting started with Richard Brown, vice chancellor of finanace and operations, discussing the "campus master plan."

This 10-year plan, which was designed in 2000, will improve the school in almost every way.

Brown said when this plan was proposed, the original student body size was at 8,604 and that it is now reaching the "Phase I" size: 10,600.

The final "Phase II" population is set at an estimated 12,500.

One goal of the master plan is that Chamberlain Field will become the heart of the campus.

This is being started with the landscaping work that is currently in progress, and it should be completed in December 2006.

Sometime in 2007, construction will begin on a new library on lot 3 at the corner of Vine and Douglas. This project will cost $49 million and will be completed sometime before 2010.

As soon as the new library is completed, the old Lupton Library will be converted into a student center.

Another project beginning in 2007 is a student wellness center, which will see completion sometime in 2008.

Other planned additions include an athletic strength and conditioning center, multiple parking garages, Grote and Race Hall renovations, dramatic changes to Fifth Street and 652 more trees.

Another guest speaker announced a barbecue for the homeless on Oct. 14 at the Salvation Army. They are currently seeking volunteers to help man the grills for this charity event that will feed a large number of homeless.

President Lydia Grafton read a letter that announced the cancellation of UTC Place's "Placestock" that would have taken place on Oct. 10. Because of conflicts with the performers, issues with funds and conflicts with other events, UTC Place decided to cancel it with the hope that they can revive the project at a later time.

Because of conflicts, SGA passed a bill that reasserts their control over the debate party.

Senators said the political science department had originally seized control of the party and changed its atmosphere to a more serious event.
