We in the financial aid office know that the application process can be challenging, and we try to make it as simple as possible.

One of the newest changes we have made to better serve you is the implementation of the Onenet financial aid portal.

By keeping an eye on your account, you can see when we need more information from you, when you have been awarded your aid and when your funds have been disbursed.

Check out our user-friendly Web site and your Onenet account to find answers to a lot of your questions.

If you have glanced at our Web site, you should have noticed the "five steps to financial aid" link. These steps are our way of simplifying the financial aid application process.

The first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, making sure that the UTC school code is listed.

Both you and your parent must electronically sign the FAFSA. Keep in mind that any aid from the state, including the HOPE scholarship, will be sent to the first Tennessee school listed on the FAFSA unless you request otherwise in writing to the state agency.

Secondly, submit all requested documents to our office. This will always include the institutional information form; other information needed will be listed on your Onenet account under "requirements."

Once you have been awarded, the third step is to accept your offered awards. Offered awards include Stafford loans and federal work study.

Grants and most scholarships will automatically be accepted for you, but offered scholarships must be accepted in writing by returning your scholarship award letter to our office.

The fourth step, if you choose to accept your loans and are a new UTC borrower, is to complete a master promissory note with your lender and entrance loan counseling. Links to both of these requirements are on our Web site.

And last, but certainly not least, accept your charges with the bursar!

Let us know if you have any questions. We are eager for suggestions on how to make your UTC financial aid experience efficient and rewarding.
