Homecoming 2006 will be a mix of old, new and revived traditions.

Ella Weaver, assistant dean of students, said the newly implemented Kickoff Day on Oct. 2 will include free food and an Elvis impersonator to complement the theme "Homecoming in Fabulous Chatt-Vegas."

"The kick-off is to get people excited from the very beginning and let everyone know what is going, on not just people in the know," she said.

Weaver said the addition of a Homecoming court will be one of the biggest changes seen this year.

"The students on the Homecoming committee brought up the idea, researched it and turned the proposal in," Weaver said. "I think it will hopefully become a big deal and create more excitement around Homecoming and become a tradition for UTC."

Krystyn Cochran, a Franklin, Tenn., junior and Homecoming committee co-chair, said, "I'm excited to see how the addition of the Homecoming Court will go."

Cacey Lewis, a Knoxville senior and Homecoming committee co-chair, spent time researching old UTC yearbooks to see how the Homecoming court was originally done.

"It has been awhile since UTC has had a Homecoming court," Lewis said. "It was time for us to bring it back but with a new twist on it."

Students will be able to cast their ballot online via a link on UTC's homepage.

The Homecoming Queen and top M.O.C.(Man on Campus) will be crowned at the game on Saturday.

Another change will be the moving of the community pep rally from Miller Plaza to UTC Place.

Jayne Holder, director of alumni affairs and a graduate of UTC, is excited about the change.

"It will be held at UTC Place, and we will be bringing the officials from the city and county to campus rather than holding a separate pep rally downtown," she said.

Also, Fifth Street will be added to the golf cart parade route.

Bill Staley, a Hendersonville, Tenn., junior and a member of the Homecoming committee, said he is looking forward to the golf cart parade.
