More needs to be done to prevent chronic maintenance problems in Lockmiller dorms, according to some students.

Amy Greer, the resident director of Lockmiller, said: "There is one maintenance person assigned to each dorm on north campus [Village, Lockmiller and Boling]. But if one complex is bombarded, then we can call in someone from another complex to help."

Greer said the time it takes to fill a maintenance request, "depends on what else is going on and the severity.

"We will fix almost anything that is messed up. Well, we won't paint. And if there's an issue with your request, we will let you know," she said.

Daryl Hill, the maintenance worker for Lockmiller, said he fills about 10 to 15 requests a day for electrical, plumbing, carpentry and air conditioner work.

According to Hill, the most common problem is leaks.

"I'd say we are able to fix about 95 percent of the problems ourselves," he added.

Taren Spence, a Murfreesboro, Tenn., senior, said she has lived in Lockmiller for the past four years, and has had problems in every room she's lived in.

"However, some of the problems were small things that would be wrong with any house," she said.

"In the dorm I live in now, our toilet is leaking from the base, and our air conditioner usually stops working about once a week. I don't think it's working right now," she added. "But I'm fortunate to be in this unit. It's in pretty good shape."

Donnie Johnson, a Clarksville, Tenn., senior, said he has also lived in Village and in UTC Place, but in his experience, Lockmiller has the worst maintenance problems.

"For instance, at the beginning of school, my bathroom was flooded, and the toilet was leaking at the base. I put in a work order and it took four weekdays for someone to fix it. Two weeks, later, it leaked again," he said.

He also said, "The housing form I got at the beginning of school said there was nothing wrong with it, but I know people who used to live there and they had the same problem."
