The Chattanooga men's tennis team won a pair of matches over the weekend, while the women picked up an easy victory over Gardner-Webb before falling to Furman to remain winless in conference action.

Gardner-Webb came to Chattanooga last Friday and was promptly run out of town after the men and women embarrassed them by a combined score of 13-1.

On the men's side, Chattanooga won every match to coast to a 7-0 slaying of the Bulldogs. UTC swept all three doubles matches to take the 1-0 lead before winning all the singles match-ups.

Winners for Chattanooga were Artyom Vlasenko, Badr Bouabdellah, Mark Fynn, Razvan Axente, Josh Bales and Michael Hangstefer.

The women were equally impressive as they took five of the six singles matches and all three doubles matches.

The matches had to be moved indoors after the doubles matches, but that didn't stop the men from earning their third consecutive victory and the women picked up their second.

Among the winners on the women's side were Anastasia Zhukova, Lindsey Ballard, Bonnie Adams, Maureen Parris and Beata Knizat.

The men continued their winning ways when Appalachian State came calling by picking up a relatively easy 5-2 victory.

Vlasenko, a sophomore from St. Petersburg, Russia, defeated Ryan Brookshaw, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 2 while Bouabdellah gave Chattanooga the lead for good with his victory at No. 3.

The sophomore from Cassablanca, Morocco squeaked by Dimitar Dimitrov 7-6, 3-6 and 10-8 in a super breaker in the third set. The win was Bouabdellah's 15th straight in singles competition.

Fynn and Azente rounded out the scoring for Chattanooga with victories at No. 4 and 5 respectively.

Fynn a junior from Harare, Zimbabwe, defeated Andrew Waters 6-4, 6-2 while Azente, a sophomore from Braila, Romania, had a come-from-behind victory 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

The women took on Furman in hopes of securing their first conference win, but the Lady Paladins would have none of that as they defeated UTC 5-2 to remain undefeated in conference action.

As usual Zhukova and Ballard were bright spots for Chattanooga as they teamed up to win their ninth consecutive doubles match.

The duo also picked up wins in the singles department as Zhukova remained undefeated in conference action and ran her overall record to 18-1 and Ballard won her team-high 10th match in a row.

Zhukova, the junior sensation from Moscow, had her hands full with Laura Gioia 0-6, 6-4, 10-6, while Ballard, the sophomore from Lilburn, Ga., also needed three sets to dispose of Marti Morris 3-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Furman stormed back to take the final four singles matches, each winning by the score of 6-0 and 6-1.
