UTC's three-time Southern Conference Women's Indoor Track Performer of the Year added another accomplishment to her list last weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial, held at the University of Kentucky.

Shannon Wommack, a graduate student from Conyers, Ga., beat her own school record by more than 11 seconds and qualified for an NCAA Provisional in the 3,000-meter run.

"Shannon qualifying for the NCAA is a great accomplishment," coach Bill Gautier said.

Kathleen Turchin, a junior from Sugar Hill, Ga., finished second in the 3,000 meters ahead of Lanni Marchant, a senior from London, Ontario, who placed third.

"Our ladies going one, two, three in the 3,000 meters race in a big meet with so many top teams competing was awesome," Gautier said. "Not many programs in the country can do that. That's why we have a national reputation."

Sabrina Lefort, a sophomore from Timmins, Ontario, came in sixth in the 3,000 meter run.

"Sabrina Lefort is adding the depth we need on the ladies side as we push for a top-three finish at the Championship Indoors," Gautier said.

Team captain Ashley Meagher, a senior from West Linn, Ore., finished seventh in the 800 meters with a conference best time.

Ian Mayne, a senior from Pickering, Ontario, ran a personal best and a conference best in the men's 3,000 meters, earning fourth place.

"They are off to a great season and showing the leadership qualities that make them team captains," Gautier said.

Linas Salkauskas, a senior from Lithuania, ran the mile in 4:21.65, finishing ninth.

And According to Gautier, Kevin Huwe, from Murfreesboro, Tenn., is in the running for Freshman of the Year honors.
