While most students traveled home for Thanksgiving break, the women's basketball team traveled to Las Vegas to participate in the UNLV Lady Rebel Shootout.

First up for coach Wes Moore and his squad was in-state foe Tennessee Tech. The Golden Eaglettes jumped on Chattanooga early, as the Lady Mocs struggled offensively to open the game. The Lady Mocs trailed at the half 39-27, and by as many as 20 points early in the second half.

"We just weren't ready when the game started," Moore said. "Offensively, we couldn't get anything to drop. The shots just wouldn't go in as much as we'd like."

In addition to trailing by double digits, Chattanooga also lost starting point guard Laura Hall for the game with a foot injury, and Moore was forced to play freshman LaShandra McCoy. McCoy responded by logging 12 minutes and scoring a career-high 14 points. McCoy, a Decatur, Ala., native went 6-for-6 from the floor and hit both her free throws, and played well in Hall's absence, according to Moore.

"She did a nice job for us," Moore said. "We're hoping Laura will only be out for the next game, but she did a nice job when she had an opportunity."

Leading Chattanooga in scoring was senior forward Katasha Brown. The Tazewell, Tenn., native scored a season-high 17 points, and also reached the 1,000-point plateau for her career. Senior Tiffani Roberson of Memphis, chipped in 14 points for the Lady Mocs.

Chattanooga had no answer on defense for Tech's trio of Emily Christian, Kendall Cavin and Meagan Lyons. The three combined to score 67 points for Tech, with each scoring over 20 points apiece.

Christian was especially dominant as she scored 22 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. For the game, TTU shot a scorching 56.4 percent for the game and an amazing 60 percent in the second half.

Moore said: "We came out and let them pass around on the perimeter without any problem and they were able to get the ball inside to Emily Christian."
