There is no excuse not to get involved in campus organizations this semester. Here is a preview of some of the activities offered by several of UTC's student organizations.

The Association of Campus Entertainment is planning a Flashback Dance Jan. 28, said Nicole Stewart, assistant director of the University Center and student activities.

"We are highlighting the '60s and '70s and having a costume contest. Those nominated for best costume will also be named king and queen," Stewart said.

The Greek show will be Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. "It's the type of show all students can enjoy and all proceeds go to charities," Stewart said.

Greek Week begins Feb. 22. "This year we are planning a singled-out game and a god and goddess pageant. The winner of the pageant gets to decide which charity all the proceeds will benefit," Stewart said.

The play "Sex Signals: A College Dating Scene" opens March 30 at 8 p.m. in the UC. Stewart said this play will touch on many issues surrounding college dating, as well as controversial issues, such as rape.

For more information about these upcoming events contact Nicole Stewart at nicole-stewart@utc.edu.

The Black Student Alliance will release the first issue of their newspaper, The Liberator, in January.

"BSA has a lot in store this semester, including volunteer work in the community, raising campus awareness of BSA as well as forming study groups and fund-raising," Zakiya A. Blake, an Atlanta junior, said, Blake can be contacted at zakiya-blake@utc.edu.

Spectrum UTC's gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and heterosexual alliance is planning a forum on transgender identity, Cathy O. Miller, Nashville junior, said.

"The forum will include numerous speakers, and although a date has not been confirmed, we are planning on March," Miller said. For more information, contact spectrumutc@yahoogr-oups.com.

The theater department will host a coffee house Feb. 11-13 at 7 p.m. and again April 8-9 at 8 p.m.

"The coffee house is a chance for students to show or perform their work. It can range from music to improvisation," Laura S. Coates, a Knoxville senior, said.

Intramurals is offering a basketball fun night Jan. 18, including a three-point free throw contest, Ron Nelson, director of campus recreation, said.

There will also be a five-on-five basketball game Feb. 19. The meeting for those interested in playing in the game is Feb. 13.

"We also offer intramural dodgeball and volleyball during February. Indoor soccer, individual badminton, table tennis and pool are offered in March and wrestling will be offered in April," Nelson said.

ACE will have its annual Spring Fling April 13 and continue with movie night once a month.

Additional information concerning student organizations and activities can be found on UTC's Web site listed under student organizations.
