Homecoming is in full swing this week at UTC.
The UTC Mocs will play their fortieth Homecoming game Saturday at 4 p.m. at Finley Stadium Davenport Field, and there are several events leading up to the big game.
A pep rally is set downtown at Miller Plaza Thursday at 12:15 p.m. featuring spirit squads, athletic coaches and the UTC Marching Mocs.
"It should be a lot of fun," said Chris Epperson, president of UTC's band. "It was a lot of fun last year."
Epperson said the marching band will play "urban jams" during the pep rally, including songs like the band plays during football games.
"The band is a part of the ceremony; we're there to support the team and to entertain the crowd," said Kerry Warden, a sophomore from Knoxville.
Other events Thursday include a cookout at 6:30 p.m. on Lansing Street in the UC Arch and a dance competition, the Step-Down Step Show, in Maclellan Gym at 8:30 p.m.
One of Friday's main festivities is the golf cart decorating and parade. Decoration is from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and the decorating theme is "Mardi Gras Mocs Style." The parade begins at 12:30 p.m. on Vine Street.
After the parade there will be a pep rally.
The Party on the Plaza will begin Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Miller Plaza.
The Party on the Plaza will open with the Hop Sing Project and feature the band 80'z Enuff.
Shannon Gilbert, the guitar player for the band, said they play 1980s classics like "Jesse's Girl" and "Keep Your Hands to Yourself." 80'z Enuff is based out of Greensboro, N.C. Gilbert said they have played many places, including Rhythm & Brews on Market Street.
The last event before the Homecoming game is tailgating at First Tennessee Pavilion next to Finley Stadium Davenport Field, which begins Saturday at 2 p.m.
There will also be a special tailgating party for Mocs football players from 1954 and earlier.
