We would like to congratulate the university on its decision to hold off the demolition of North Stadium Hall until next summer.
While the university should strive to complete the project as soon as possible, starting the project during either the fall or spring semester would create an unnecessary obstacle and hazard on a major pedestrian thoroughfare.
Because of the reduced amount of traffic on campus during the summer, there will be much less of a hazardous and difficult situation created.
We would also like to congratulate the university on deciding not to demolish South Stadium Hall. This is a very historic building and should be restored just as the university is planning to do.
Once completed, the new green space will give a fresh look to campus. We believe this look will be an improvement to the current layout of campus. Students will be able to stand at the top of Cardiac Hill and see a lot more of campus than they have ever been able to see before.
Like Vice Chancellor Richard Brown said, this will bring the north and south ends of campus closer together. The UC, Holt Hall and Grote Hall will no longer seem so distant from all of the buildings on Oak Street.
While this major change on the campus maybe be hard to imagine at first, it will successfully bring the whole campus together and provide a more conducive space for student and faculty use.
