New student organization swings into action
Students are putting on their dancing shoes now that UTC is offering a swing dance club every Friday night. Sam Nienow, a sophomore from Franklin, Tenn., and a former teaching assistant of ballroom dancing, said swing dancing is a lost art. He said he had heard of many other colleges, such as Tennessee Tech University, as well as the city of Chattanooga, offering swing dance clubs.

Memes move to campus
Memes, the internet phenomenon that expresses ideas by printing captions on photos, is now a way for students to share opinions and frustrations about UTC. Mike Glor, a Hendersonville, Tenn., senior, and Joe Palermo, a Long Island, N.Y., senior, created the facebook page for UTC memes.

Graphic designers publish to book
A recently published book features the work of eight former UTC graphic design students. Graduates of the program, Liz Tapp, Mandy Meredith, Nick DuPey, Joseph Shipp, Ben Horner and Beth Joseph, as well as former adjunct professors Michael Hendrix and Paul Rustand, make up eight of the nine designers involved in Caleb Ludwick's "The First Time She Fell.

Students budget spring break
Students looking to enjoy an affordable spring break may be in luck, especially if they have friends or family in the right places. Students say they can find plenty of ways to have a cheap spring break, both in Chattanooga and away. Emily Huddleston, a freshman from Hendersonville, Tenn.

Toast tops other study spots
Toast Cafe, located on Vine Street near Johnson Apartments, offers delicious food and a great study environment. The restaurant was called Coffee Crafters before it moved a few doors down this past summer, and the new location is more spacious while being just as convenient for students.

Yellow Deli delivers controversy
Whether they have eaten there, studied there, walked past it or have never even been inside, most students have heard something about the Yellow Deli. Dicky Cantrell, a 39-year member of the Yellow Deli, said he joined the community when he was 22 years old and never looked back.

Freedom Sunday fights human trafficking
A student-organized event aimed at raising awareness about human trafficking will be on campus Feb. 26. The Freedom Sunday service, organized by Michael Guinn, a senior from Elizabethton, Tenn., is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Benwood Auditorium in the EMCS and is open to all students.

Computers compromised in dorm
Students who used computers in Stophel Apartments may need to reboot their computers to ensure a bogus network configuration is not still on their computer. Jeff Kell, director of networking services, said UTC Network Services discovered a compromised computer in Stophel on Feb.

Finance companies worry for future of student loans
Student loan debt is on the rise and financial service companies are worried about the effects this could have on the economy. The average loan debt for a graduating UTC undergraduate is $21, 812, and the national average cumulative loan debt is $24, 615, Julae Grosz, associate director of the office of student financial aid, said.

Pennies no longer effective
As you walk along, something shimmering in the sun grabs your attention. You look down and pick up the shiny new penny, observe that it is not heads and promptly toss it back for the next passerby. There is a reason that penny was on the ground,and that is because it is worthless and should no longer be in existence.

Mocs shutout regular season
The Mocs wrestling team finished out its regular season by pitching a 41-0 shutout against VMI Monday night. Nick Soto, a Spring Hill, Fla. freshman, scored the lone pin for the Mocs on the day but was one of ten Mocs to score victories over the Keydets.

Lady Mocs take two road losses
Chattanooga traveled to Atlanta for the Georgia State Panther Invitational Feb. 18 and 19 but dropped two of three games on the weekend. The Lady Mocs topped IUPUI 13-5 in the first game of the tournament before falling 5-1 to Georgia State and 5-4 to Eastern Illinois.
